Low Cost Airline Guide

bmi is an English full-service airline with its main base in London Heathrow airport. It operates domestic and international flights to several destinations in Europe, the United States, Canada and across the world, some of them in code sharing with a range of other airlines. It was founded in 1938 as Air Schools Ltd, providing training for RAF pilots. In 1949 the company changed its name in Derby Aviations and started passenger and charter cargo services. In 1964 was renamed British Midland Airways. Now bmi is one of the largest airlines in the United Kingdom. It is owned by Sir Michael Bishop (majority shareholder), Lufthansa and SAS (Scandinavian Airlines System).
